John Gordon Crammond (born July 5, 1906 in Egremont , Wallasey , † September 18, 1978 in Sevenoaks ) was a British skeleton athlete and sailor .

Career

John Crammond worked as a stockbroker in London . He was also trained as a pilot and was an amateur sailor. He first took part in the Cresta race in St. Moritz in the late 1920s . During the 1930s he regularly sailed in various regattas. In 1938 he was able to win the Grand National Regatta .

During World War II, Crammond served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force . After the end of the war he took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in skeleton, halfway through the race he was in the lead, but slipped two places in the last three races and thus won the bronze medal. He competed in Cresta races until 1952 , after which he retired and sailed through the Mediterranean with his yacht for the next 25 years. Crammond also worked as a journalist for The Observer , reporting on winter sports.
