John Cranko School

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The John Cranko School is a ballet school in Stuttgart . It was founded by John Cranko , the long-time director of the Stuttgart Ballet .

history

Cranko came to Stuttgart in 1961 and quickly brought the ballet there to world fame. He was soon planning to found a ballet school in Stuttgart to give young dancers the opportunity to complete their training in close contact with the ballet company . In 1971 he turned this idea into reality. He outlined the goals of the school in his inaugural address as follows: “Without losing the sense of community that has made our ballet company so rich in diversity of talents, styles and characters, we intend to educate our future students and every dancer to give the best that we are able to do. "

In 1973 the top two classes officially became a state ballet academy ( vocational school ). For the first time in Germany, young talented dancers had the opportunity to receive continuous training in classical dance from lower school to professional qualification with a state diploma. With the growing international importance of the Stuttgart Ballet, the school received steadily increasing popularity and has since maintained its place among the most recognized ballet schools in the world.

The school today consists of the ballet school of the Württemberg State Theater (a so-called free teaching facility ) and the state ballet academy (a vocational school). The state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Stuttgart share the financial responsibility . The school has a boarding and day boarding school to cater for foreign and international students .
