John Currin

John Currin (born September 19, 1962 in Boulder , Colorado ) is an American painter. He attended Carnegie Mellon University and Yale University .

Currin's style is partly based on works of the Renaissance - the similarity to the works of Lucas Cranach the Elder. Ä. is clearly noticeable in some of his pictures - partly in modern magazines, where he often grotesquely exaggerates the proportions of the human body. His paintings can u. a. at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution . Currin's works now fetch top prices of up to $ 5,458,500 ( Nice 'n Easy, Sotheby’s , November 2008).

In 2009, John Currin was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design .
