John Donald Wilkinson

John Donald Wilkinson (born March 28, 1929 in Wimbledon (London) , † January 13, 2018 ) was a British Anglican church historian .

Life

He first studied Classics at Merton College in Oxford and then theology at Cuddesdon Theological College. In 1954 he became a deacon and in 1957 he was ordained a priest. He was then a curator at St. Dunstan and All Saints in Stepney for three years . After a brief period of teaching at Ely Theological College in 1960, Wilkinson went to Jerusalem as a tutor at St. George's College in 1961 . In 1963 he returned to London and worked at the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. In 1969 he returned to Jerusalem, where he became Dean of Studies at St. George's College. In 1975 he returned to London where he became Episcopal Director of Clergy Training and Curate of Holy Trinity, Kensington Gore, and All Saints, Ennismore Gardens. From 1979 to 1984 he was director of the British School of Archeology in Jerusalem .
