John Erskine

John Erskine (* probably June 2, 1721 in Edinburgh ; † 1803 ) was a Scottish pastor of the Church of Scotland and author.

Life

Erskine was the eldest son of John Erskine (1695–1768) of Carnock, Professor of Scottish Law at Edinburgh University, and Margaret Melvill (born 1697) of Belgarvie, Fife, born. He completed his training at the University of Edinburgh , initially studying law, but later switched to studying theology. It was in 1743 from Dunblane - presbytery for the clergy Office approved and in 1744 Kirkintilloch , Dunbartonshire ordained . On June 15, 1746 he married Christian Mackay († 1810), they had fourteen children, but only four of them reached adulthood.
