Sextus Cocceius Severianus Honorinus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sextus Cocceius Severianus Honorinus was a Roman politician and senator in the mid-2nd century AD.

In 144, Severianus was the praetoric legate of the province of Arabia Petraea , as is evident from a previously unpublished military diploma . In one of the first years of the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius in the province of Africa he was active as a legate of the governor - presumably also a praetorean.

In the last quarter of the year 147 Severianus became a suffect consul , first together with Tiberius Licinius Cassius Cassianus , after his death with Gaius Popilius Carus Pedo . Between 161 and 169, but probably before 163, Severianus became proconsul of the province of Africa , where he was honored with a team of six. The writer Apuleius gave a speech to him. His son was Cocceius Honorinus, who was a legate in Africa under his father.

A Claudia Sestia Cocceia Severiana, known from an inscription from Rome, was a relative (possibly granddaughter) of Sextus Cocceius Severianus Honorinus.
