John Gardner (politician, 1747)
John Gardner (* 1747 in South Kingstown , Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations ; † October 18, 1808 ibid) was an American farmer from South Kingstown and Narragansett in Rhode Island. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress for Rhode Island in 1789 .
biography
Gardner was the son of Colonel John Gardner (1696-1770) and his second wife Mary (Taylor) Gardner. During the American Revolutionary War he served a military company called Kingstown Reds ; in November 1775 he became a captain of this company.
Gardner served several times, between 1776 and 1791, also as a judge or as a justice of the peace . In 1786 and 1787 he was a member of the Rhode Island General Assembly for the Paper Money Party . This sent him in 1789 as a delegate to the Continental Congress.
