John Hobhouse, Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough

John Stewart Hobhouse, Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough , PC ( January 31, 1932 - March 15, 2004 ) was a British judge and Law Lord .

life and career

He was born in Mossley Hill , Liverpool . He was taught at St. Andrews, Pangbourne and Eton. After working on sheep farms in Australia and New Zealand for some time , Hobhouse returned to Christ Church , Oxford in 1951 . He became a barrister and was appointed to the bar in 1955. He later became a bencher .

Hobhouse was appointed high court judge in 1982 and received the knighthood. In 1993 he became Lord Justice of Appeal and a member of the Privy Council.

On 1 October 1998 he became a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary and Life Peer entitled

Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough, of Woodborough in the County of Wiltshire .

Lord Hobhouse was married to Susannah Roskill. They had two sons and a daughter.
