John Horam, Baron Horam

John Horam, Baron Horam (born March 7, 1939 in Preston , Lancashire ) is a British Conservative politician and a member of the House of Lords .

John Horam studied history and economics at St Catharine's College , Cambridge University. After two years working for the confectionery manufacturer Rowntree’s , he switched to the Financial Times and then to the Economist as a journalist in 1962 . 1968 returned to business as a manager at the CRU Group .

In 1970 Horam was elected to the House of Commons for the Labor Party as MP for the Gateshead West constituency. In 1981 he moved from the Labor Party to its right-wing split from the SDP . In the 1983 general election, he failed to win in the Newcastle upon Tyne Central constituency , and he was eliminated from the House of Commons. He then returned to the CRU Group. In the parliamentary elections in 1992 he stood this time for the Conservative Party , which had changed to 1987, in the constituency of Orpington and won it. John Horram also won the constituency in the three subsequent elections with a clear majority, but decided not to run for the 2010 general election.

Horam's political career is notable because he sat for three different parties in the House of Commons, first head of the Ministry of Transport for the Labor Party from 1976 to 1979 and then the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Health for the Conservative Party . In addition, he was the economic policy spokesman for the SDP in the lower house and a member of the Environment Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee for the Conservative Party.

On September 4, 2013 John Horam became Baron Horam , of Grimsargh in the County of Lancashire , as a Life Peer member of the House of Lords.
