Nestlé UK Ltd. is a UK confectionery company that operated as Rowntree’s before it was acquired by Nestlé ( Rowntree Mackintosh between 1969 and 1987 ).

history

Founded Rowntree 1862 in York (England) by Henry Isaac Rowntree , then starting in 1869 by his brother, the philanthropist Joseph Rowntree was supported. In the mid-1960s, Rowntree took over the Hamburg chocolate factory, which still exists today, from Herbert Stockmann. 1969 merged Rowntree with the competitor Mackintosh ( Rolo , Munchies , Caramac , Toffo and Quality Street ) to Rowntree Mackintosh .

In the spring of 1988, the two Swiss groups Jacobs Suchard and Nestlé fought a takeover battle over Rowntree plc , as the company has been called since 1987. On June 23, 1988, the company's board of directors finally accepted Nestlé's offer, which was again increased on that day, whereupon Jacobs Suchard sold his previously acquired shares in Rowntree to Nestlé the following day.

In November 1991 the company was renamed Nestlé UK Ltd. After the takeover, other Nestlé businesses were brought into Nestlé UK in addition to chocolate production.
