Classic after dinner mints

After Eight ( engl. Is "after eight") a registered trademark of Nestlé . The original product of this brand are flat, square tablets made of dark chocolate , which are filled with a fondant cream with a peppermint flavor.

In England , peppermint lozenges or sweets, so-called "After Dinner Mints", are often served after dinner in order to use the positive effects of mint on digestion and to maintain a fresh taste in the mouth after eating. For this purpose, After Eight was developed in 1962 by the English company Rowntree’s for the English market . The name was chosen after the time when dinner usually ends and mints are offered - after eight o'clock. The product appeared on the German market in the mid-1960s. In 1988 Nestlé bought Rowntree's, thereby also acquiring the rights to After Eight.

In 1995 the “Collection” praline mix was added to the classic After Eight in the form of peppermint bars (from 2002 “My favorite”). The first seasonal product was created in 2000 with an after-eight Santa Claus. There are now also filled chopsticks, coated tablets , a gift box, After Eight Lemon, After Eight Irish Cream, After Eight Dark, After Eight Cassis, After Eight Orange, After Eight Strawberry and After Eight Gin Tonic as well as an Advent calendar in the form of the Elizabeth Tower in London . Since autumn 2008, unfilled dark chocolate bars have also been sold in Germany.
