Recommissioning
After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in March 2011, the nuclear power plant was shut down. On October 9, 2014, the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency approved a restart. On October 31, 2014, the local assembly and on November 7, 2014, the governor of Kagoshima also approved the restart. In April 2015, a court dismissed a lawsuit against restarting the two nuclear reactors in Sendai. The restart of reactor block 1 was announced for August 11, 2015 and, despite protests, carried out as planned.
Since the beginning of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March 2011, many Japanese have spoken out against nuclear energy, while the government under Prime Minister Shinzō Abe has been in favor. (→ Nuclear energy by country # Japan )
