The Higashidōri nuclear power plant ( Japanese 東 通 原子 力 発 電 所 , Higashidōri genshiryoku hatsudensho ) is located on the eastern side of the Shimokita peninsula in the municipality of Higashidōri in the Aomori prefecture . The 3.58 km 2 facility has been on the grid since 2005 and is owned by Tōhoku Denryoku .

The boiling water reactor built by Toshiba was created based on experiences with Onagawa-3 and went into operation in 2005. Tohoku is planning another ABWR reactor with a gross output of 1,385 MW.

Tōkyō Denryoku (TEPCO) also wants to build two 1.385 MW ABWR reactors on a neighboring 4.5 km 2 site . Construction of the first block began in January 2011. After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima , TEPCO initially stopped work.

On December 1, 2011, TEPCO announced that it was giving up building block 1 completely due to lack of funds. However, TEPCO denied this report. In March 2014, the Tepco reactors were listed in both the IAEA's PRIS and the WNA.
