The Shimane nuclear power plant ( Japanese 島 根 原子 力 発 電 所 , Shimane genshiryoku hatsudensho ) is located in Kashima ( Matsue ) in Shimane prefecture . The plant belongs to the Chūgoku Denryoku .
There are three reactors on the site, the first two were supplied by Hitachi , and a third reactor was due to go online in December 2011, but this was not done due to the Fukushima reactor disaster . During construction preparations, a seismically active fault was found only 2.5 km away , but this should not have any effect on the safety of the power plant.
Block 1
On April 30, 2015, Shimane-1 was finally taken offline.
Block 2
Block 2 has been idle since January 2012. The operator applied for a restart permit in December 2013. The application was approved in February 2018. The approval process runs without major obstacles. Since the local population and government are positive about a new start, a restart of the block can be expected in the medium term.
Block 3
Shimane 3 is an advanced boiling water reactor. Construction began in 2007. In September 2012, METI allowed the 94% completed block to be continued. In August 2018, the operator applied for a safety inspection for the almost completed block.
Data of the reactor blocks
The Shimane nuclear power plant has a total of two blocks , a third is under construction:
