Stephen Root (born November 17, 1951 in Sarasota , Florida ) is an American actor .

life and career

After graduating from the University of Florida, Root performed with the National Shakespeare Company for three years . He then went to New York , where he first appeared in off-Broadway theaters. In 1987 he played on Broadway in Sandra Deer's comedy So Long on Lonely Street . The play was canceled after 53 performances.

Root played his first film role in George A. Romero's The Monkey in Man in 1988 . This was followed by minor roles in Black Rain , Kindergarten Cop and other films, until he took on the role of Jimmy James in the television series NewsRadio in 1995 . By 1999, Root played the eccentric owner of a radio station in 53 episodes of the series. For the cartoon series King of the Hill , he spoke from 1997 to 2010 in 257 episodes of various roles. He also spoke in Finding Nemo , among others .
