John Jackson (boxer)

John Jackson (born September 28, 1769 in London , England , † October 7, 1845 ibid) was a celebrated English boxer in the bare knuckle era. He introduced the scientific principles of boxing.

In 1795 he competed against Daniel Mendoza in the light heavyweight division for the English championship and won. He held this title until 1803.

Jackson died in London at the age of 76 and was inducted into Ring Magazine's Boxing Hall of Fame in 1954 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the Pioneers category in 1992.
