John Jordan Crittenden Sen.
John Jordan Crittenden (* 1754 in New Kent , Colony of Virginia ; † May 1806 in Woodford County , Kentucky ) was a major in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and a member of the lower house of the Virginia government from 1790 to 1805.
Life
He was the son of an influential family of politicians and army officers who played a major role in the politics of several southern states until the late 19th century .
Crittenden was the son of John Crittenden and Margaret Butler. On August 21, 1783, he married Judith Harris, daughter of John Harris and Obedience Turpin. John and Judith had eight children, including the future politicians John Jordan Crittenden and Robert Crittenden . He was a founding member of the Virginia Division of the Society of the Cincinnati .
