Guadalupe is a city in Santa Barbara County in the US state of California , United States . The city has 7080 inhabitants (as of 2010). Economically and socially, Guadalupe is closely tied to Santa Maria , about 13 km to the east .
The city was named after Our Lady of Guadalupe , the patron saint of Mexico .
geography
Guadalupe is located in the far northwest of Santa Barbara County , south of the Santa Maria River . The urban area extends over 3,405 km², of which 99.60% is land and 0.40% is water. The city consists of a tight array of buildings surrounded by a largely flat surrounding area. This is primarily used for agriculture and oil production.
In the south there are hills behind which Vandenberg Air Force Base is located.
To the west and north of the city are the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes , to which Guadalupe owes its nickname "Gateway to the Dunes". This region has been repeatedly used as a setting for films, such as The Ten Commandments of 1923 and the comedy The Odd Couple II from the year 1998. For the movies Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End and 3000 miles to fame - Hidalgo were shot individual scenes here.

California State Routes 1 and 166 intersect in Guadalupe , so the city is well connected to places to the north, east and south.
Guadalupe is on the route of the Pacific Surfliner , a long-distance train operated by the US company Amtrak .
