John Maltravers
Sir John Maltravers (also Mautravers ) (* 1266 ; † 1341 ) was an English knight.
Life
Maltravers came from Lytchett Matravers in Dorset , his father was also called John Maltravers. As a young knight he had spent a lot of time in Ireland , then he took part in the campaigns of King Edward I in Scotland during the First Scottish War of Independence and in Gascony during the Franco-English War . Around 1296, after his father's death, he inherited his father's property in Dorset. He was beaten on May 12, 1306 together with Edward , the Prince of Wales, to the Knight of the Bath and appointed to the Knight Banneret . In 1308 he participated in the party of the Earl of Arundel in a major tournament in Dunstable . He was an opponent of the royal favorite Hugh le Despenser in 1325 and was accused in July 1325 of burglary and theft in the royal estate of Kingsbury Regis in Somerset . In October 1325, he is said to have caused a riot during a market in Dorset, which is why he was charged as a rebel in 1326. His goods were confiscated, but after the fall of King Edward II and Hugh le Despenser in late 1326, he got his goods back.
Marriages and offspring
In his first marriage he married Alinore , whose origin is unknown. With her he had at least two children:
