John Marshal, 7th Earl of Warwick

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Marshal, 7th Earl of Warwick (* after 1200; † between October 3 and 23, 1242 ) was an English nobleman.

John Marshal came from a branch of the Marshal family . He was the eldest son of his father John of the same name and of his wife Aline de Ryes. His father was an illegitimate son of John Marshal († 1194) and thus a nephew of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke . Like his father, who was perhaps too old to fight, he did not support the futile rebellion of his cousin Richard Marshal, 3rd Earl of Pembroke against the king from 1233 to 1234 . After his father's death, on June 27, 1235, John paid homage to the king for the Haselbury estate in Somerset . He married Margaret de Beaumont , daughter of Henry de Beaumont, 5th Earl of Warwick . After the childless death of their brother Thomas de Beaumont, 6th Earl of Warwick in June 1242, his wife inherited his title and possessions, so that John was entitled to the title of Earl of Warwick . But he died a little later himself. His marriage had been childless and his younger brother, William Marshal of Norton , inherited . His widow married John de Plessis for the second time .
