John Merrill Knapp
John Merrill Knapp (born May 9, 1914 in New York City , † March 7, 1993 in Princeton , New Jersey) was an American musicologist and university professor. He is best known for his research on Georg Friedrich Händel .
Knapp graduated from Yale University in 1936. From 1946 he worked, initially as a music teacher, later as an assistant professor and associate professor and from 1961 to 1982 as a full professor at Princeton University .
In 1985 he was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district .
