John Napier (bobsledder)
John Napier (born December 12, 1986 in Schenectady ) is an American bobsleigh athlete .
John Napier lives in Lake Placid . He started playing in 1994 and has been a member of the US national team since 2002. In February 2005 he made his debut with the pushers John Caponio , Brock Kreitzburg and Aron McGuire in the Bobsleigh World Cup and reached 15th place. In 2006, Napier was temporarily used in the Bobsleigh European Cup , but established himself permanently in the World Cup since the end of 2007. In December 2007, Napier and his crew, consisting of Jamie Moriarty , TJ Burns and Steven Langton , reached eighth place in Park City, a first top ten placement. The 2008 Bobsleigh World Championships in Altenberg became Napier's first international championship, where he was 16th in the two-man bobsleigh with Charles Berkeley and 18th in the four-man bobsleigh with Justin Olsen , Jacob Miller and Berkeley. Shortly afterwards he reached 12th place in the big bobsleigh at the Junior World Championships in Igls . Napier spent most of the 2008-09 season in the America's Cup. After three third and one fifth place he won eight races in a row. The American had finally established himself in the World Cup since 2009. On his home track in Park City, he achieved a new record in February of that year with a fifth place. At the US championships he won the two-man bobsleigh title with Cory Butner . The 2009 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid were not quite as successful, where he was 17th in the two-man with TJ Burns and eleventh in the four-man bobsleigh with Jesse Beckum , Moriarty and Nick Cunningham . In November, Napier won his first race in the World Cup with Berkeley in two. Several podium finishes followed in the following two seasons. He finished the 2009/10 season in eighth place in the two-man bobsleigh and four in the overall ranking of the four-man bobsleigh. Previous career highlight was the participation in the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver . Napier was used in both sleds. In the two-man he reached tenth place with Steve Langton, in the four-man bobsleigh he was eliminated with Chris Fogt , Langton and Berkeley after the third run.
