John Parker (politician)
John Parker (born June 24, 1759 in Charleston , Province of South Carolina , † April 20, 1832 in Charleston) was an American politician who attended the Continental Congress as a delegate from South Carolina .
After initially receiving his schooling in his native South Carolina, John Parker went to England and graduated from Middle Temple in London . He then returned to America, was inducted into the bar in 1785, and began practicing law in Charleston. He also ran a plantation near his hometown where he grew rice .
From 1786 to 1788 Parker took part in the sessions of the Continental Congress, which at that time met without exception in New York City . Then he settled back in Charleston, where he took care of his properties "Hayes" and "Cedar Grove". He died in April 1832 and was buried on the Hayes Estate in Goose Creek .
