John Rennie (Science Journalist)
John Rennie (* 1959 near Boston ) is an American science journalist. From late 1994 to late 2009, he was the seventh editor-in-chief of the science magazine Scientific American .
Rennie received his bachelor's degree in biology from Yale University in 1981 and then worked as a scientist at Harvard Medical School for a number of years before starting his career as a science journalist. He wrote and edited articles on biology, technology and medicine. In 1989 he was a member of Scientific American's Board of Editors .
Rennie performed in improvisational theaters in New York and his hometown of Boston for several years .
The Council of Scientific Society Presidents honored Rennie with the Sagan Award for Public Understanding of Science in 2000 . In 2004, the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies presented him with the Navigator Award for important contributions to promoting the importance of science and technology in the United States.
