John Stuart Morrison

John Stuart Morisson (born December 7, 1889 in Toronto , † March 1, 1975 ibid) was a Canadian chess player.

He won the Canadian championship five times (1910, 1913, 1922, 1924 and 1926) alone and in 1931 was tied with the master Maurice Fox . In the New York tournament in 1913 he finished 12th, in the New York tournament in 1918 7th and in the 1922 London tournament 14th place. Morrison played on the first board (+5 = 4-6) for Canada at the 8th Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires in 1939. In 2000 he was inducted into the Canadian Chess Hall of Fame .

In 1918 he succeeded in defeating Dawid Janowski in New York , in 1922 in London he defeated Max Euwe . After calculating the historical Elo number , John Morrison was in January 1920 in 21st place in the world rankings.
