John Thornton (athlete)
John Thornton ( John St. Leger Thornton; born June 6, 1911 in Greasley , Nottinghamshire , † August 18, 1944 in Normandy ) was a British hurdler who had specialized in the 110-meter distance .
At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he was fifth and fourth at the European Athletics Championships in Paris in 1938 .
He set his personal best of 14.5 s on August 8, 1937 in Brussels.
He fell during Operation Overlord .
