John Toland (historian)
John Willard Toland (born June 29, 1912 in La Crosse , Wisconsin , † January 4, 2004 in Danbury , Connecticut ) was an American historian and writer.
Life
He wrote a large number of works, in which he mostly tried to bring historical facts closer in an excitingly narrated way and to forego in-depth, scientific analyzes. In 1971 Toland was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his book The Rising Sun , in which he describes the development of Japan between 1936 and 1945 from a Japanese perspective . He achieved particular fame with his two-volume biography of Adolf Hitler in 1976. He received excellent reviews for this; the two volumes were rated as very readable . He also wrote two historical novels.
