John Villiers

John Villiers (* 1936 ) is a British historian and contributor to the British Council .

John Villiers studied history at Cambridge University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1957 . Between 1958 and 1960 research activities in Cambridge and at the University of Lisbon followed. From 1960 to 1963 Villiers was an employee of the British Council in Bandung and English lecturer at Padjadjaran State University . In 1963 Villiers received his doctorate in Cambridge with a thesis on Portuguese social history. He then worked at the British Council in Warsaw .

John Villiers wrote studies on the Portuguese in the Far East as well as on Indian art, language and culture. He currently lives in London.
