Johnius is a species of fish that predominantly lives in the tropicsfrom the perch- related family of Umberfishes (Sciaenidae). The scientific name of the genus comes from the ichthyologist Marcus Élieser Bloch in recognition of the achievements of the German missionary and naturalist Christoph Samuel John . A number of species are important edible fish .

features

The swim bladder of Johnius fish is hammer-shaped with numerous appendages. A branch of the first of these penetrates into the head and is visible under the gill cover . The sagitta has a sulcus with a crooked head and a conically deepened tail.

Systematics

Within the genus, a distinction is made between two sub-genera, with Johnius (Johnieops) the inner row of teeth of the lower jaw is enlarged.
