Johnny Baldwin

Johnny Lee Baldwin (born August 26, 1949 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a retired American boxer .

Career

As an amateur, Johnny Baldwin won the silver medal in the light middleweight division at the 1968 US Championships and then took part in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where he was only defeated in the semifinals against Rolando Garbey and thus won a bronze medal in the light middleweight division. In an international match in 1969 he defeated the German Ewald Jarmer by knockout in the first round.

The 1.78 m southpaw turned pro in 1970 and remained undefeated in 30 fights. In December 1975 he then lost on points to boxing legend Marvin Hagler . He suffered another defeat in March 1978 against eventual world champion Ayub Kalule . In May 1978 he also lost to three-time world champion Marvin Johnson .

He ended his career in 1979 with a professional record of 32 wins (22 knockout) and 5 losses (2 knockout).
