John Carpenter (* 25. June 1914 in Debinsville , Arizona as Jasper Carpenter ; † 27. February 2003 in Burbank , California ) was an American actor .

Carpenter, son of a farmer and butcher, attended the University of Arkansas where a car accident prevented a career as a baseball player . After his rehabilitation, he worked on the local ranch for many years until he came to Hollywood in the early 1940s. There he was initially employed as a stuntman and from 1943 to 1950 he could be seen alongside numerous B-film heroes.

In 1950, producer Jack Schwartz offered him a contract that gave him bigger roles; he also worked for television. Between 1953 and 1956 he distributed and produced four westerns written and co-produced by Carpenter with him in the lead role; thus Carpenter became the last of the series heroes. Then he turned back to television. In 1970, a professed Christian, he opened the first Heaven on Earth ranch, a western town, to which he invited disabled children. He carried out this activity until his death.
