Johnny Trí Nguyễn (born February 16, 1974 in Bình Dương Province, South Vietnam ; actually Nguyễn Chánh Minh Trí ) is a Vietnamese-American actor , stunt performer and martial artist .

life and work

At the age of eight he left Vietnam with his parents and two older siblings in order to go to the United States via detours. He was fascinated by martial arts films from Hong Kong from an early age , so that he acquired Asian martial arts such as Aikido , Kung Fu , Wushu , Tai Chi as well as fighting with sword and lance. As a member of the US national wushu team, he won a gold medal in the "Fitness and Fencing Art" category at the 2nd Pan-American Wushu Championships in Toronto in the summer of 1998.

He started his film career as a stuntman for television series like Buffy - The Vampire Slayer , Charmed - Magical Witches or Angel - Hunters of Darkness and Hollywood productions such as Spider-Man and Ella - Verflixt & Zauberhaft . Through small film roles, such as in Born 2 Die in 2003 , he got his first leading role in the feature film First Morning . He is best known to international audiences for his role in the martial arts film Revenge of the Warrior - Tom Yum Goong at the side of Tony Jaa .
