Cradle 2 the Grave (Alternative title: Born To Die ; Original title: Cradle 2 the Grave ) is an action film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak from the year 2003 with Jet Li and DMX in the lead roles.

Tony Fait, the thief and small-time star, stole a handful of valuable “black diamonds ” from a bank . The problem is, after his employer is dead and Tony is wanted, he can't do much with them. But apparently the whole underworld is after the diamonds. Tony's life is in danger several times, and gangsters also kidnap his little daughter. He gets help from the Taiwanese secret service agent Su, who is keen to get the stones back to their rightful owner, his government. So the two pursue their goals together in an up and down through all the dangers and obstacles that still stand in their way and ultimately bring both the stones and Tony's daughter to safety.

  • The theme song Go to Sleep was recorded by lead actor DMX together with rappers Eminem and Obie Trice . The song X Gon 'Give It to Ya by DMX , released as a single, also comes from this soundtrack .
  • Mark Dacascos was recruited for the shoot after he won the most votes from fans on Jet Li's website in a poll of who should be Li's next screen opponent.
  • Tito Ortiz , Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture , fighters of the UFC , can be seen in the scenes of the cage fight.
  • The dialogue between Tommy and Archie at the end of the film alludes to the end of the film Exit Wounds in one scene . Here, too, these two protagonists sit in a talk show and talk. When Tommy asks what happened to these two, Archie replies that they were both gay and became a couple.
  • Born 2 Die is after Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds the third and so far last film that director Andrzej Bartkowiak and producer Joel Silver made together.

With a story that is “hardly worth mentioning”, Andrzej Bartkowiak once again achieved “gross profits of over 55 million dollars” in the USA alone. Although “original characters and a fascinating background story were not to be expected”, the stunts and action interludes are convincing, “solid to strong staged and musically accompanied by hard guitar riffs and gripping hip-hop beats”. Born 2 Die can not “convince with any really new idea”, “The biggest shortcoming is not the actors, but the German synchronization”, who with Michael Roll chooses a “softie voice” for DMX that does not do justice to the character but is “shameful and involuntarily weird”.

  • MTV Movie Awards 2003: Nomination for Best Fight for Jet Li in the scenes of the cage fight
  • Taurus Awards 2004 : three stunt nominations for Best Work with a Vehicle , Best High Work and Best Overall Stunt by a Stunt Man
