Jon Fridrik Kjølbro

Jon Fridrik Kjølbro (born June 2, 1967 in Gentofte ) is a Danish lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Kjølbro acquired after studying law in 1992 at the University of Copenhagen the title Master of Laws . He then worked as a public prosecutor at the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Copenhagen, and in 1994 briefly at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Copenhagen. From 1994 to 1996 Kjølbro worked as a judge at the District Court in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands . 1996 returned to the Reich Public Prosecutor's Office in Copenhagen, where he worked until 2001. He also held various positions at the Danish Ministry of Justice , including in the department for criminal matters and human rights issues. From 2003 to 2004 he was an ad hoc judge at Østre Landsret , Denmark's highest court for the eastern regions. After a year-long tenure as a judge at the Copenhagen District Court, he returned to the Østre Landsret as an ordinary judge, where he worked until 2014. From 2010 he was deputy chairman of the chamber. Since April 1, 2014, Kjølbro has succeeded Peer Lorenzen as the representative of Denmark as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights . His term of office is expected to run until March 31, 2023. He has been President of Section IV of the ECHR since February 1, 2019.
