Jon McClure

Jon McClure (* 1981 in Grenoside, Sheffield ), aka the Reverend , is a singer and front man of the British band Reverend and the Makers and former singer from 1984 and Judan Suki . He says “Reverend” became his nickname because he was a “loudmouth” and was always pushing people.

Life

Jon McClure was born in the Sheffield suburb of Grenoside , where he grew up with his parents and brother Chris. He studied history and politics at the University of Sheffield . There he met musician friends and colleagues, where he had known Ed Cosens since childhood. Then he turned to poetry and started an internet blog. He developed a close friendship with Alex Turner, the singer from the Arctic Monkeys , whom McClure met on the bus and asked if he would like to join his band Judan Suki . Together they composed a number of songs including He Said He Loved Me , The Machine (both on The State of Things [2007]) and Old Yellow Bricks (on Favorite Worst Nightmare ). McClure names Bob Marley , the band Oasis and John Cooper Clarke as his main inspirations .

McClure was part of a group that founded Instigate Debate in August 2008 . In the same year Mongrel was created with members of Arctic Monkeys and the Babyshambles , who presented the album Better Than Heavy .

In August 2009, McClure married Laura Manuel, a member of the Reverend and the Makers .
