Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner (January 2008)

Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner (born August 29, 1967 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic telecommunications researcher and entrepreneur. In 1995 he co-founded and later CEO of Opera Software . At the end of 2013 he founded Vivaldi Technologies , which operates the Vivaldi.net community platform including the Vivaldi Mail e-mail service.

Tetzchner drew public attention on April 21, 2005 with the statement that he would swim the Atlantic from Norway to the USA if the latest version of Opera were to record more than a million downloads in the first four days. That number was reached and Opera Software announced that Tetzchner would "keep his word". The attempt on April 25 and 26, which was not meant to be taken seriously, failed before “Mum's hot chocolate”, when the company's rubber dinghy accompanying him capsized on the “open sea”.

After disagreements with the Opera board about the concentration on the quarterly results relevant to the stock exchange, von Tetzchner withdrew from the company on June 30, 2011. Prior to that, he held a full-time position as a strategic and independent employee despite giving up the CEO position. In a letter to the Opera employees, he announced that he would keep an eye on the company in the future - but from the outside.

After Tetzchner reduced his stake in Opera Software through a sale in 2013, he now owns 5.18 percent of the shares in the company.

Vivaldi Technologies

In December 2013, Tetzchner founded Vivaldi Technologies and started the social network Vivaldi.net. The platform includes a forum, blogs, chats, enables photo exchange and offers the Vivaldi Mail e-mail service.

On January 27, 2015, Vivaldi Technologies released the Vivaldi web browser .
