Jonas von Wilferstorf (* around 1610) was an Austrian baron .

Live and act

Jonas von Wilferstorf inherited five farms and farmsteads from the former property of Erasmus and Ernst Kornpeck in today's municipality of Großwilfersdorf , which before 1848 belonged to the Fürstenfeld district court . He also owned the Schwarzturm in the ring wall of Fürstenfeld, which his family had acquired in 1582, and the Freihaus to the west of the tower, a residential building with a bay window, which has been called Pfeilberg since 1558 .

Like his ancestors, he wore the coat of arms of the Kornpeck family with an ear of corn and a straw wreath . In 1631 he was elevated to the baron rank by the emperor.

Portraits

In the GrazMuseum two baroque portraits of the 26-year-old Jonas von Wilferstorf and his wife Euphrosina von Wilferstorf are preserved, which together form a unit. The couple is represented in the same room and therefore as equals. Each of the two pictures has its own coat of arms and a text describing the person shown. The elaborate clothes of the couple represent power and dignity. In addition to the jewelry, which proves the baron's wealth, sabers and spurs symbolize male attributes such as strength and energy.

His wife, Euphrosina von Wilferstorf, is depicted in a classic portrait of the aristocracy, with her jewelry, clothing and the curtain in the background demonstrating the wealth and importance of personality. As a sign of her religiosity and education, she holds a prayer book.
