Jonathan Bender (born January 30, 1981 in Picayune , Mississippi ) is a retired American basketball player . He played the position of power forward .

Bender played at Picayune Memorial High School prior to beginning his professional career before being selected 5th in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors . He was then traded for Antonio Davis to the Indiana Pacers . Bender was rarely used in the first two years. 2000-01 he played his best season. In this he scored 7.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 78 games. He then signed a new contract for $ 28.5 million for four years. In the following years, Bender's career was marked by serious injuries. He missed 61 games in 2003/04, 75 games in 2004/05 and 80 of 82 games in 2005/06. His contract was terminated on June 14, 2006 by the Pacers. After persistent injuries, Bender retired that summer, aged just 25.

On December 13, 2009, he surprisingly made his return to the NBA when he was signed by the New York Knicks . For the Knicks, Bender completed 25 games and scored 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. During his basketball career, Bender achieved an average of 5.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.
