Joni Huntley

Joni Huntley (actually: Johanna Luann Huntley , married Rueter ; born August 4, 1956 in McMinnville , Oregon ) is a former American high jumper .

From 1974 to 1977 Huntley was US high jump champion four times in a row. She also won four other national titles indoors between 1974 and 1981. Her first major international success was her victory at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she finished fifth with a jumped height of 1.89 m. She missed the following Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 because of the boycott of the US team. In 1983 she was third at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas.

Huntley's career peaked at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the final she set a personal best of 1.97 m skipped, with which she won the bronze medal behind the German Ulrike Meyfarth (2.02 m) and the Italian Sara Simeoni (2.00 m).

Joni Huntley is 1.73 m tall and had a competition weight of 61 kg. She attended Oregon State University and California State University in Long Beach. After finishing her active career, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Portland .
