Jan van der Noot
Jan van der Noot , also Jonker van der Noot (* 1539 in Brecht , † 1595 in Antwerp ) was a Flemish poet .
Life
Noot fled Antwerp to England in 1567 , where he lived for a few years as a persecuted Calvinist . He later went to France and Germany and returned to Antwerp in 1578 as a pro-Spanish Catholic. Noot was the first Renaissance poet of the Spanish Netherlands . His "Het Bosken", which appeared in London in 1570 , followed Pierre de Ronsard . Some of his works were immediately translated into German and French. He spent his last years as a wage clerk in Antwerp. From 1580 to 1595 several editions of his poetic works were published.
