Jonny Clay

Jonathan Davis "Jonny" Clay (born June 26, 1963 in Leeds ) is a former British road and track cyclist .

On the road, Jonny Clay mainly competed in races in his home country, a few times in Australia, Italy, Sweden and Belgium. In 1986 he became the British runner-up in road racing for amateurs . In 1990 he finished second overall on the Herald Sun Tour , in 1992 and 1998 he won the Tour of Lancashire and in 1992 the Tom Simpson Memorial . In 1997 he was third in the national championship in the individual time trial on the road and 2000 national runner-up in road racing. Also in 2000 he won the Scottish cycle race The Girvan .

On the track, Clay was primarily active in international competitions. In 1998 he won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur with the British track four ( Colin Sturgess , Matthew Illingworth , Bradley Wiggins ) . At the UCI Track World Championships in Manchester in 2000 , the four-man (with Bradley Wiggins, Paul Manning and Chris Brown ) was runner-up.

Clay started in two disciplines at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 : he finished 13th in the points race and the British team ( Bryan Steel , Paul Manning, Bradley Wiggins, Chris Brown) won the bronze medal in the team pursuit . He then ended his cycling career.

Jonny Clay comes from a cycling family: Both of his parents were active cyclists, his mother multiple British track champion. His wife was also a cyclist.
