Jordania zonope is a species of fish from the group of bull relatives (Cottales). It occurs close to the coast in the northeastern Pacific from Baranof Island on the coast of southeastern Alaska to central California .
features
Jordania zonope has a slender, elongated shape and becomes 15 cm long. Most of the body above the sideline is scaled, the scales below have grown together to form oblique scales. The upper spine of the gill cover is thin and usually not bent, the lower ones are strong, sharp and bent upwards. Jordania zonope is olive green in color, with six or seven dark saddle spots on the back and showy red and dark spots on the sides. There are three vertical light bands below the eyes. The caudal fin is rounded and colored bright orange. The first dorsal fin is much longer than that of most other bullheads. The anal fin is also long and, in contrast to most other bullheads, begins below the first dorsal fin. Because of these characteristics, the species is called "Longfin Sculpin" in English.
Fins formula: dorsal XVII – XVIII / 15–17, anal 0 / 22–24, ventral 5 (4).
Way of life
Jordania zonope lives in the intertidal zone to depths of 38 meters in rocky areas, kelp and kelp forests . The fish often hang upright on the rocks. They are very active fish that form territories during the breeding season .
