Armatocereus oligogonus is a species of plant in the genus Armatocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet oligogonus is derived from the Greek words oligos for 'little' and gonia for 'edge' and refers to a few ribs on the shoots.

description

Armatocereus oligogonus grows tree-shaped with upright shoots and reaches heights of up to 3 meters. The columnar shoots are cloudy green to gray-green. There are four to five distinct, narrow ribs . The gray thorns have a darker tip. The one or two central spines have a length of up to 10 centimeters. The eight to twelve radial spines are up to 15 millimeters long.

The white flowers are 5 to 6 centimeters long and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The brown fruits are thorny.

Distribution and systematics

Armatocereus oligogonus is common in northern Peru .

The first description by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg was published in 1957. A nomenclatory synonym is Armatocereus ghiesbreghtii var. Oligogonus (Rauh & Backeb.) F. Ritter (1981).
