Jorge Julio Rocha

Jorge Eliécer Julio Rocha (born April 4, 1969 in El Retén, Department del Magdalena ) is a former Colombian boxer .

In 1988 Julio Rocha won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul in the bantamweight (-54 kg). After victories over Michael Hormillosa, Philippines (RSC 3rd), Felix Nieves, Puerto Rico (5: 0), René Breitbarth , DDR (4: 1), and Katsuyoki Matsushima, Japan (3: 2), he failed in the semifinals on later silver medalist Aleksandar Christow .

In 1989, Julio Rocha turned pro and in 1992, in his 24th fight, won the WBA bantamweight title with a points win over Eddie Cook. He defended that title twice in 1993 before losing it to Junior Jones. Julio Rocha only got his next chance for a world title in 1997. After twelve rounds he won the WBO title against Oscar Maldonado (However, the WBO was not one of the major associations at that time.). Julio Rocha defended the title against Adonis Cruz in 1998 and against Julio Gamboa in 1999, before losing it to Johnny Tapia in 2000 . Shortly thereafter, he also lost a fight for the NABF title and in 2002 one for the IBF title against Manny Pacquiao . After another defeat against Israel Vázquez , Julio Rocha ended his career in 2003 after 44 wins (32 KOs) in 49 fights.
