Israel Vazquez (* 25. December 1977 in Mexico City as Israel Vazquez Castaneda ) is a Mexican boxer in half featherweight .
Career
The attacking boxer Vázquez, who was strong in hitting his left hook, turned professional in the bantamweight division in 1995 and knocked out his first nine opponents for a short while before losing to his unknown compatriot Saúl Briseño prematurely. After eleven other successes, boxing in the USA from 1998 , he lost in 1999 in semi-featherweight against Marcos Licona on points. Another three years later, in which he beat the world champion challenger Beleno, he met counter-boxer Óscar Larios , whom he knocked out in an earlier fight in 1997 in the first round , in 2002 in the fight for the WBC interim title , was knocked out by this but first boxed out, then defeated prematurely.
He came back with a knockout against veteran Jorge Julio (ex-WBO title holder) and won the vacant IBF class in March 2004 with a win against Venezuelan José Luis Valbuena. In 2005 he met Larios again in a decisive battle for the WBC belt, which he knocked out heavily this time in the third round, making him the center of interest in the boxing world for the first time. Against Jhonny González he had bigger problems in 2006 and was down twice before he knocked out on lap ten. This is where his greatest weakness, the lack of defense, became apparent.
On March 3, 2006, there was the first duel with his compatriot Rafael Márquez , a highly respected bantamweight world champion who had not lost for seven years. Vázquez managed to knock down on the third lap before he had to retire after the seventh lap with a broken nose. But he won the rematch in August 2007 in another spectacular fight by technical knockout in round six. In March 2008, the third fight against Marquez took place. Vázquez won this encounter just on points.
Then Vázquez took a longer break from boxing, as he needed several operations because of his susceptibility to lacerations and a Netzhaus detachment from the third fight against Marquez. Only after 1.5 years did he return to a build-up fight in the ring. A fourth meeting with Rafael Márquez was then agreed. This fight took place on May 22, 2010 and was won by Márquez by technical knockout in the third round.
