Jorma Karvonen

Jorma Karvonen (born October 16, 1949 in Lammi ) is a former Finnish orienteer and ski orienteer .

In 1972 Karvonen participated in the first unofficial ski orienteering world championship in Velingrad, Bulgaria . He finished second in the individual competition and fourth with the Finnish relay. 1975 saw the first official world championship in orienteering skiing in Hyvinkää, Finland . Karvonen finished second in the individual race behind his compatriot Olavi Svanberg . In the season the Finnish quartet with Pekka Pökälä , Heimo Taskinen , Karvonen and Svanberg was successful before the Swedish season. At the 1977 World Cup , Karvonen was third behind Örjan Svahn from Sweden and Pekka Pökälä. The Finnish relay team with Olavi Svanberg, Heikki Hautala , Karvonen and Pökälä was disqualified.

In 1978 Jorma Karvonen became Finnish champion in summer orienteering on the normal distance. He was then nominated for the orienteering world championship in 1978 in Kongsberg and was individual ninth and with the relay, the Urho Kujala , Karvonen, Simo Nurminen and Risto Nuuros belonged to third.

Karvonen ran in Finland for the clubs Lammin Säkiä and Joutsenon Kullervo .
