José Bernardo de Tagle Portocarrero (born July 17, 1779 in Lima , † September 26, 1825 in Callao ), Marqués de Torre Tagle, was a Peruvian military and politician and President of Peru from 1823 to 1824 .

He was a Peruvian member of the Cortes in Cádiz and lived in Spain between 1812 and 1817 . On his return he was appointed governor of Trujillo and after the arrival of José de San Martín proclaimed the city 's independence from Spain.

He took over the presidency for the first time, interim, from February 27 to 28, 1823 and again from July 17, 1823 to February 17, 1824, as successor to José de la Riva Agüero . Antonio José de Sucre briefly took over the presidency until de Tagle was appointed. de Tagle remained in office until Simón Bolívar arrived .

During his tenure, the flag of Peru, designed by José de San Martín, was simplified.
