José Maria Cardona Blasi , also José-Maria Cardona Blasi (born 1954) is a Spanish cartoonist .

Life

Cardona mainly works as a commissioned and studio draftsman (he currently belongs to the Comicon studio's pool of draftsmen ). This is why his name is best known for the science fiction series Sigma Gigantik , based on texts by Víctor Mora and drawn for the German comic magazine Zack . Before his own series was published in Zack in 1979, the comic adaptation of the TV series Mondbasis Alpha 1 , which he had drawn, appeared there at the end of the 1970s , two albums of which were also released in the Zack Box series (there are more Comic adaptations of this television series, which was designed by Cardona, were also carried out on behalf of the Zack editorial team, the majority of the stories were adaptations of TV episodes of the first season and this version was also published in Italy). Since both were science fiction series, they are correspondingly comparable, although it is noticeable that Cardona masters the requirements that the adaptation of a TV template entails (such as the similarity of the characters drawn with the corresponding actors) well , but at the same time they have narrowed it down. With Sigma Gigantik, for example, his lines are much looser and freer, and the alien worlds he has created are more playful and imaginative than with Moon Base Alpha 1 .

Cardona began his drawing career in the early 1970s with love stories for the British publisher DCThomson, which were mediated by Josep Toutain's agency Selecciones Ilustradas, for which u. a. and Fernando Fernández worked, which later became the cover illustration for the first Sigma Gigantik contributed album. The work on Vampirella also connects the two Spanish artists. Cardona worked on series like Davy Crocket , which were released in many European countries. From 1985 to 1993 he drew for the Scandinavian Disney producer Egmont, from 1987 to 1995 for the French publisher Hachette, and in 2005/2006 for the Finnish media group Sanoma, which also has a Disney license. The resulting stories were published in Germany in various LTB editions . In addition, he produced book illustrations for TV series such as Rugrats . His brother-in-law José Maria Millet Lopez is also active in the comics field.
