Rugrats (English for pants-shit , literal translation carpet rats ) is an animated series produced by the television station Nickelodeon in cooperation with the production company Klasky Csupo . The series ran from 1991 to 1994. 1995 and 1996 each appeared a special before the series was resumed and continued from 1997 to 2004 with new episodes on television.

To Rugrats was successor series All Grown Up - Almost grown produce.

Framework story

The series is about a group of babies between the ages of one and three who experience loads of adventures with their view of the world. One-year-old Tommy Pickles is arguably the most important character in the series, followed by Chuckie, the twins Phil & Lil and the 3-year-old Angelica, who usually tries to play pranks on the other children or otherwise doesn't behave nicely towards the others. The children's parents and Tommy's dog Spike can also be seen often in the series.

Characters

Thomas "Tommy" Louis Pickles is the group's most adventurous baby. His reckless approach usually causes trouble. He is also the leader of the group. Tommy was named after the son of Paul Germain, one of the creators of the series.

Dylan "Dil" Prescott Pickles is Tommy's younger brother and, unlike the others, is still a real baby. It was introduced in "The Rugrats Movie" .

Angelica Charlotte Pickles is Tommy and Dil's cousin, who always wants to play the baby's boss. She is about 3 years older than the others. She plays the good girl in the presence of adults, but mostly causes trouble for babies.

Charles "Chuckie" Crandall Finster III is Tommy's best friend. He is the most fearful of the group, with particular fear of clowns. He is the only 2 year old in the group.

Philip "Phil" Richard Paul and Lillian "Lil" Marie Jill DeVille are fraternal twins (boy and girl) who are always together. They both like to play in the dirt and love to eat bugs and worms.

Kimi Watanabe-Finster is Chuckie's younger stepsister and was introduced in the second Rugrats film, Rugrats in Paris: The Movie . Kimi is a very happy girl who mostly smiles.

Susanna "Susie" Yvonne Carmichael is a friend of the babies who lives in the neighborhood. She's about Angelica's age. She has two older brothers, Edwin and Buster and an older sister Alisa.

Stuart "Stu" Pickles is Tommy and Dil's father. He also has a brother, Drew Pickles, Angelica's father, with whom he keeps arguing. Didi Pickles is his wife. Stu is a somewhat unfit for life entrepreneur whose specialty is developing strange toys for his company, which is registered under the name Pickles Industries .

Didi Pickles (birth name: Kerpackter) is Tommy and Dil's mother. She is a kind of super-mother who monitors every step of her children and talks about it with child psychologist Dr. Lipschitz talks to make sure that their children are growing up the right way.

Louis Kalhern "Lou" Pickles is Tommy and Dil's grandpa. He often indulges in old times and talks about them extensively. However, sometimes he doesn't seem to remember quite correctly. In addition, he often just falls asleep.

Spike is the pickle dog.

Reptar is a green dinosaur that is reminiscent of Godzilla . In Rugrats , he's just a fictional movie monster. There are many merchandising products around him in the series and even the Euro Reptarland Park in “Rugrats in Paris: The Movie” .

background

After production on the series ended in 1994, Nickelodeon only repeated the episodes. In 1995 and 1996 only one special was broadcast. The US broadcaster put the series into prime time in 1997 , which meant that the Rugrats received high ratings again and the series became more popular again. After this success through repetitions, the first film was released in 1998. Rugrats - The film was a huge hit, grossing over $ 100 million. With Rugrats in Paris - The Film , a second feature film came out in 2000, followed by Die Rugrats on the move in 2003, but it was not as successful as the first film.

In addition, the broadcaster or Klasky Csupo produced a spin-off series in 2003 called All Grown Up , in which all Rugrats people are nine years older. The spin-off is based on the Rugrats two-part series " Fast Adult " ( All Growed Up ). So this episode can also be seen as "Episode 0" of All Grown Up . NICK began broadcasting the spin-off on August 21, 2006.
