Antonio Spagnoli

Antonio Spagnoli (born April 16, 1849 in Reviano, Isera municipality ; † March 19, 1932 there ) was a sculptor from Trentino .

life and work

Antonio Spagnoli received his first drawing lessons in Rovereto in 1868/1869 . In 1873 he moved to Milan , where he first began an apprenticeship with the sculptor Antonio Tantardini and then attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera . From 1876 he studied for two years at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence and one year at the Regio Istituto di Belle Arti in Rome .

After first assignments in Rovereto, he moved to Innsbruck in 1882 , where he was entrusted with the artistic design of the facade of the extended Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum  . For this purpose he created portrait busts of Tyrolean artists, poets and scientists as well as decorative elements in marble and terracotta . He made the gable group of Tyrolia 1887–1889 based on a design by Joseph Gasser von Valhorn .

In 1892 he returned to Isera, where he worked for church and private clients.

Spagnoli created statues, among others for churches in Rovereto, Arco , Serravalle , and Isera, portrait busts as well as grave monuments, among others in Innsbruck , Rovereto, Mori , Sacco and Isera. His preferred materials were Carrara marble and red Veronese marble .
